To trade or not to trade..

So here's the story, I've got a 1994 Ranger 2.3L 2WD 5 speed with 90,xxx on it, and it's my winter beater. My dad also has a 1994 Ranger, but his is 4WD and it's a 4.0L automatic. He recently purchased an '04 Sierra 1500 to replace the Ranger as his plow truck. He offered that I sell my truck, and whatever I get for it, he'll sell me his Ranger for. I'm very tempted to take him up on his offer, as 4WD would be EXTREMELY handy to have in the winter, but his truck has almost double the mileage of my truck (177,xxx), it was used as a plow truck almost it's entire life (although very well-maintained), and it gets horrible gas mileage in comparison to mine. Thoughts?

It's just about as rusty as my truck is... which is pretty rusty. Lol. Michigan winters are hard on vehicles, especially these Rangers. Yes it will only be driven in the winter. Yes his is stock. Yes mine is stock minus a couple of exterior modifications.

I vote it'd be worth the trade even with the mileage if it's only a snow truck anyway. 2wd will get you there. 4wd will get you there and back. If you dd yours I could see the wantin to keep up the mpg's and lower miles on it are a plus. I love my 2wd DD and it's just fine in the snow but 4wd is less sketchy and easier to get back to the road if you do slide off.

Oh and I know my sig says charlotte but I grew up in the mountains of NC and the 2wd holds its own in the white stuff just took longer to get there and some places I wouldn't go

Yeah that's kind of what I've been thinking. I didn't get stuck this past winter in my truck (winter tires and weight helps), but came close a couple of times.

I dunno how rusty yours is compared to mine, but my truck has 230k miles on it. it's a '94 2wd and it has a 245 v6 conversion, i'd happily trade mine for a 4wd with twice the mileage... but what do I know, my ranger hasn't seen pavement in months.

Bingo, if you gotta do it, you gotta do it right. But yeah that 4wd sure is nice to have in the slicker spots

If it was a manual tranny It be a even greater deal. The only problem with the auto tranny is that your gonna get like 17 mpg tops and a manual would get like 21mpg tops. But other than that do it get the 4wd.

I'd do it man, just for the 4.0 and 4x4. Pull all the plow stuff off unless you can make money with it. Do you have any pics of the two so we can see what we are talking about.

Here's a super old picture (4 years) of my Dad's truck, but it looks the exact same today. All of the plow equipment has already been removed.

That's all I've got of his, I had to go scour my old myspace for that picture. Lol. I'll get some more pictures and put them up.
