I am wanting lengthen some of my wires on the wiring harness and I would like to know if soldering and then crimping the connectors is the best way to do it. If I am to solder is there a special kind of solder that I can use:icon_confused:? . . Thanks in advance!!! Shane

Hello

Solder/ paste, shrinktube and tape. That will make it water proof as much as you can. Normal wire solder will do. I have been doing it for years and no problem yet.

Definitely solder all connections with shrink tube that has sealer/adhesive inside it.

Waterproof/ corrosion proof and permanent.

most any flux core solder will work just fine get some shrink tube for that wire size put the tube on the wire before you solder then you can put some dielectric grease on the exposed wires before you shrink it will protect from corrosion. I use a little butane pen torch to shrink with just be careful and shrink it slow. I guess a paint stripper gun works good too for shrinking.

YAY! solder, i solder every connection on all my vehicles, never have had any wiring problems from doing it..

Thanks for the input guys . . . to wal-mart i will go . . . !

Might be too late but get ,"ROSIN-CORE" solder. the acid core will cause corrosion

I just use the new heat-shrinkable crimp connectors. Never had any corrosion problems. I also use rubber coated wire instead of plastic coated wire. It just lasts longer with our cold weather.

Solder, shrink wrap, tape, Do it right one time. Go to Lowe's or Radio Shack not Wally world!
