I have 09 ranger with a 4.0, I lifted it and put 31x10.50R15's on it. The truck had 8.8 with 3.55's with a open diff and then I put a 8.8 with 3.73's and limited slip in it. Once I put the 3.73 w/LS it wounldn't do burn outs anymore, Is this do to the LS having to much traction? Would help to go to 4.10's w/LS? I just kinda miss be able to smoke the tires  I have Pro Comp Xtreme All-Terrian Tires if that helps. Also who would the gearing chage effect fuel milage?

Reason it doesn't smoke is the limited slip....you're getting more traction to BOTH tires instead of just one. Limited slip is doing it's job. I'm locked and can't still do smokey ass burnouts...just gotta know how to do 'em.

3.73 and 31's on a 4.0 is about perfect. 4.10 would be fun and awesome and you'd be able to run up to 33's in case you wanna go bigger. 31's and 4.10's was stock on my truck.

Forgot; Yes, gear change would effect fuel economy....but for the better. the 4.0 SOHC LOOOOOOOVES RPM's. At 80mph at 3,000rpm, i'm getting about 20mpg.

Something also, did you recalibrate your computer at the dealer for your gear change? If not, your speedo and odometer readings are incorrect. If you base your mileage figures on those, they are incorrect.

I have 4.10's and 31's. I think it's a great combo. I haven't heard anyone with 4.10's and 33's (which simulates 3.73's) really complain about that either.

Your fine either way. 373s are good, but if you have the money, 410s would be nice and allow you to go large in the future. But regearing is not cheap unless you find whole axles already done (like the 8.8 with 373s).

As said before, the LS eliminates your burnout abilities.

Thanks Guys, you pretty comfrimed my thoughts on my gearing. I think will upgrade to 4.10 w/ls but i am gonna wait till a FX4 Level 2 rear end comes around, thats the best axle to have right?

What do i need to do at the dealership to have my truck re-clock for the tires and gearing change?

it is, but it's not really worth your wait...since they're so uber rare.
