My credo
if it aint broke dont fix it if it is broke upgrade
my front end has some play in it when i drive down the road idk if its just something simple or do i have to get the front in aligned

Crawl under there and look.

Is any of the steering linkage loose? Tierods, drag link, etc. Or, it could be the steering box itself.

What is wrong with the ranger could be a number of things. If it ias the one that you have listed it could be a bad steering box, loose front end parts, bad ball joints or a bad set of tires. If you take it to an alignment shop and any of the mentioned parts are worn they may not align it.

well i have checked the tires an i can say the the left front tire the bottom points inword an the streer does have a little play in it

Your best bet is to get a buddy to help you. Have him sit in the truck with the steering wheel unlocked and engine not running. Have him move the steering wheel back and forth without trying to move the wheels. This is the part where you lay in front of the truck to see if there is any major slop or movement in any of the linkage. If it moves any the part needs to be replaced. Next jack up the truck right next to the wheel and take a prybar and put it under the tire and lift up to see if there is any up and down play. If there is any movement at all the ball joints need replaced.
