now that i gotta do my head gaskets. my block is full of scaly rust how can i get rid of it without pulling my block and dipping it...have to replace the freeze plugs on both sides of the block..can i just wire brush the inside and blow it out...the water jackets that is...

I don't think there is a way short of pulling the block and dipping it. I dug a bunch of rust (BIG clumps) out of a flathead block that sat for 33 years. I did it thru water pump holes and everywhere else while running a water hose and flushing it at the same time. I poked the holes open at the heads and did the best I could with screwdrivers and my fingers and a wire brush. It seems to be fine, doesn't overheat and the antifreeze is still not rusty looking, so the hell with it until I pull it for a rebuild.

If you're truly dead set on a DIY job, Muriatic Acid will work on rust. Should still be available at most hardware stores. You should take good care not to get any on you.

I guarantee taking it someplace would be infinitely less of a headache.

fill it with water and take it to the dealer, ask for a coolant flush.
