TK5 to M50D swap??

That's on a 4x4 Ron. I'm pretty sure on a 2wd removal of the tail housing is required. I just tore a 2wd M5OD apart and the gear looked a lot bigger than the output shaft's hole. It's also in pretty far.

I still have the parts on my bench at work, I can check to be sure tomorrow.

'95 and up may not have the worm gear in tail shaft housing for mechanical speedo.
Look in the hole to see if you see it.

re-reading my speedo section I see I wasn't terribly clear. My M5R1 that i got definitely DOES have the worm gear on the outputshaft. I'm just not sure that the gear on my speedo cable will mesh properly with the gear in the tranny, but we will find out!

edit: you know if my cable doesn't work with the new tranny i'm wondering if an early 90's speedo cable would work with my '87 speedo

Early 90s cable will work. I have a 91 cable in my 87.

Also, I confirmed my suspicion that the 2wd speedo gear does not fit out the back of the tail housing.
