I have two rangers sitting here. The 84 is a 2.8L, 5 speed, 2wd, lwb truck. The 86 is a 2.9L 5 speed, 2wd, swb truck. I am 99.5% sure that they both have the TK5 transmission. The 84 has a external slave and the 86 is internal. I am about to swap the 86 transmission into the 84. Can I convert the 86 transmission to external slave by swapping the bell housing and associated components, or is there more involved?

Thanks,

Josh

well if they are both TK5's then all you would have to do is swap out the bell housing but more then likely the 86 has an FM145 transmission.

The TK5 should ahve 2 inspection plates on the upper left hand side of the transmission and a removable finned bottom plate that sits at an angle where as the FM has a flat finned bottom and no inspection plates.
