Tires!!!!

anyone know what size tires i can put on my truck?? biggest as possible without major drivability problems... 04 4x4 ext cab edge with mild torsion bar crank and newly installed 3 inch body lift. THE KICKER IS I DONT WANT TO CHANGE MY WHEELS!! i figure 33 may work but i dont know how wide the stock 16" wheels are. im new to lifted trucks. ive always been low!

33x12.50. If you want to stick with stock rims, then you can't go 12.50 wide. 11.50 would be the widest I would go.

IIRC, your wheels are 7" wide. You could fit a 12.50 but I think you would be better off with a 10.50 or an 11.50. Most tire manufacturers recommend an 8-10" wide wheel for a 12.50 tire. If you were to put them on a 7" wide wheel, you would have to run lower PSI in the tires to get a good flat contact patch, and then you'd be killing you mileage.

Do you plan to wheel the truck, or is this mostly for show?

Yeah a 12.50 wouldn't be the best but it is possible with lower pressure and as said will lower your mpg's.

you could probably go with a 285/75/16 or 305/70/16.

Let me clarify that. It is by all means possible to fit a 12.50 tire on a 7 or 8 inch wide rim. It's HIGHLY recommended that you don't do it.

Stock was probably a 245/75R16. Try a set of 265/75R16. That size is very common and is equal to a 31". If you still want bigger, 285/75R16 would be the next best up.

Not to many people know abotu this size tire so I will throw it out there. You can get a 33" tire that is about 9.75"s wide depending on which manufacterer you use. This size will range from about 9.5-10"s wide. Sounds like they would be perfect for what you want to do. Use a 255/85R16. They only come in a 8 ply D weight range that I have seen so they are much heavier duty then you need, but they will likely last on a light truck like the ranger for 60-70k Miles. I have used these tires on my 02 F350 before, and love the look without the nasty wide bubble look on stock wheels. I highly recommend this tire for what you are doing. It is like 33.2 inches tall, and will fit a 7" rim just fine. You can get them in mudders or all terrain. I will be buying another set for my 1992 when the 285/75/R16 that came on the truck wear out.

What gear ratio do you have? That's another variable to this equation. I personally wouldn't run anything bigger than a 32" tire on stock gearing...even with 4.10's and the 4.0L.

Well, every offroad mag I have looked at for the past 10 years had said 'NO' to 7 inch rims for a 33x12.5. An 8 inch rim is the perfect way to go. I use and 8 inch wide rim for my 33x12.5 BFG KO tires. A 10 inch rim will work of course but on our Rangers I am sure it will mess up the weall bearings pretty darn fast!!! Anybody else seen this before?

Quite a few guys run 15x10's on their Rangers with no problems.

I've seen 35x12.5x16s on your rims (assuming your truck is your avatar). It didn't look quite right, and I'm pretty sure he had a good 5 inches of lift, but they were on there. I'd stick with DragRag's suggestion.
