I have a '03 Level II, as most of you probably know is factory equipped with 31x10.50x15 BFG TAs. The Ranger now has 105k miles and has gone through 2 sets of TAs. That seems ok to me mileage wise but they have always been noisey on the road (99% of my driving). You REAL off road guys can insert laughter here.
A tire friend recommended Cooper Discovery AT-3 s.
The first thing I noticed was deep tread. Secondly, the noise level is quite lower than the TA s.
I have driven about 300 miles now that included some heavy Pacific Northwest rain and mini lakes on the highways. No problems. The snow is coming though as is some back country exploring.
The one item that did bother me was the amount of weight each tire took to balance. The TA s didn't require much in comparison.
I'll post any problems that might come up. Just thought y'all might be interested. Side bar: I'm finding that those who post on here are way more knowlegeable than I. Felt a need to contribute.

I have AT-3s on my F250. Put them on in September... they are a great tire and very reasonably priced. I noticed a lot of weights on mine too. They run smooth an that's all I really care about.

The more involved you get in discussions, the more knowledgeable you'll be! Don't be scared, this is a great group on this forum :icon_thumby:

I run 33x12.5 BFG KO tires and they are so quiet on the road. Handle great in wet weather are so great on the street and they are really great on trail rides...not god in thick deep mud of course....lol. I am on my second set. I bought my first set late in 2000 and when these wear out I will get another set. They are the best tires I have ever owned and have lasted and wear so nicely. I am surprised your TA tires were not so good. Everybody I know who has the BFG KO tires really love them.

I didn't have a real problem with the KOs other than noise and price. They took me some tough places and back that others may not have. I usually stick with the one what brung me. I'll try to be honest in my assesment of AT 3s.
I had 35" BFG MTs on my '68 Bronco and I expected them to be more noisey.
Got spoiled with the comfort of AC etc with the Ranger and sold the Bronco to a much younger guy whose loving the heck out of it.

I find it funny that you thought the BFGs were too loud. I choose those same tires because of how quiet they are compared to the aggressiveness of the tread pattern.
