Tires For Ontario Winter

In alot of those tests they compare an old low rated studded tire against modern studdless tires. You can get modern design snow tires that can be studded and have the best of both designs.

The General Altimax Arctic is highly rated without studs http://www.consumersearch.com/snow-tires
The Tirerack tested it with and without studs and found it better on ice with studs http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=123

My 2wd open diff Ranger with General Altimax Arctic studded tires works much better on Ice than my previous front wheel drive 4 cylinder car did with Bridgestone Blizzak WS50 tires.
Good info thanks for the links :icon_thumby:

I have two sandbags between the wheels, but I think four bags over the spring brackets could be better placement.

im running handcook i peck snow tires on the rear of my 06 ranger sport

I try to keep the weight just behind the cab...especially if it's anything that can become airborne...less tendency to come though the back window should a front impact occur...

So far, I've been fortunate to get by with a 25lb weight from a York set of body building equipment (the concrete covered in plastic) and about 100 lbs of snow...

I've been doing a bit of scrap hauling and every time it snows my base weight goes up ten pounds...lol
