This is going to sound like a rookie question but i couldn't find a straight answer on the internet. What is the widest tire i can fit onto a stock 15X6.5" rim, I know i can do 215, but i was wondering if a 235 would be too much for the rim. I plan on ordering 15X10's later this year i just havent had the funds available yet. Thank you for any help you have to offer.

The widest recommended tire for a 6.5" rim is (generally) 30/9.5r15.
On a 6" rim (base 2wd) the largest size would be 235/75r15.

As a general rule, it is best to keep the tread width of the tire within 1"-1.5" of the rim width, and the section width of the tire within 3" or so of the rim width.

Thanks for the info, im just buying some "used" tires so my little truck can put around until i can order my new rims and get new tires.

Usually if you look up the tire size (like on www.tirerack.com for example) it will usually list a range of rim widths that should work. Unless it's a super ridiculous/wierd - performance/specialty tire they should pretty much be the same range for every tire in that size.

Information that doesn't particularly apply, but for the sake of knowing:

Technically, a tire can be put on any number of rim widths, but at that point you generally have wear issues, or running inflation pressures that the tire wasn't particularly designed to deal with to compensate for tread wear. Too wide a rim and it wears the sides out - unless you run much higher pressures. The opposite for a rim too narrow. Staying within the recommended rim range should change the psi required very little, vehicle weight would influence it more. - but if it's only 1/2 an inch out, that usually doesn't do much either.

I got a friend running a 37x14.00" R16 IROK on an 8" rim. it keeps the bead seated better at lower pressures. Though it's not exactly streetable...

I can't find the pic, but it had a truck with I think maybe a 14" or 16" wide rims on 31's, they were all bowed out and it looked terrible. I couldn't believe the person even found a shop willing to do it.
