Hi guys, I've been running the numbers, but hoped you all wouldn't mind helping me double-checking my work.
My '94 has 14" wheels on it with some VERY old tires that need replaced. Due to the ridiculous cost of 14" rubber, I sourced some junkyard 15" wheels off of another 2WD Ranger of the same year. I dunno if it matters, but both are the ones everybody calls "Deer Print".
ANYWAY.... the stock tire size on here is 225/70/14-- 8.9" wide, 26.4" tall
I wanted to avoid as much as I can shrinking the sidewall down, so I think I've landed on this size: 235/65/15 -- 9.3" wide, 27" tall, same sidewall height.

So I have a few general questions about my choice here. First, do I have the numbers correct?
And secondly, the larger tires are an extra 1/2" taller and an extra 1/2 wider... do any of you think that will they pose any risk of rubbing on anything? And will the extra 1/2" width make them look too fat, or would that little difference be mostly unnoticed? I know my speedo will be off very slightly, and it'll cost be a little bit of torque, but I think with those numbers it should be minimal enough to not matter much.

Thoughts?

225/65r15 are identical

Well, close enough you won't notice at all

And another very common size

The difference will barely be noticeable. You shouldn't have any rubbing anywhere. Go for it. Have fun with your truck.

That is a "rare" tire size, I did some research trying to find ones that were common enough a guy didn't have issues finding em and were still fairly close to the same size so the speedo was not off.

1010tires says there is 6 models available is all, and that is a total "once upon a time" there were 6 available not necessarily today.

Once I figured out that 215/65/15 was common enough to actually be available and cheap enough I decided to look for that size, and quit filling in the chart. (I ended up getting 16 inch rims so the 16 inch chart is much more filled out.)

sidenote, my door sticker says 215/70/14 and that is what is on my truck. You posted 225, did Ford increase in the 4 years/generation change between us?...- are you sure it is 225?

Yea I'm starting to notice that now that I began looking around.
I guess I'll have to pick a tire first, then see if there is a size available thats close enough such as mentioned above.
At least I know my numbers aren't off. I don't want to shrink the sidewall (the thing already rides like a log wagon), but I also can't get too tall and throw off the speedo too much.

1010tires and discount (tires.com) both have +0 size calculators that will suggest what sizes to get based on keeping the speedo/odo accurate. On each of those sites if you click 1 or 2 more clicks you can get a list of what is available, that is how I started filling in that chart.

On your '94 you're a $9 speedo gear away from fixing your speedo if it gets too far off... I got my '97 within 2% that way.

I've put as big as 235 75 15 on my '97 without any rubbing, heck they still look small in those silly big fender openings...

Your plan sounds reasonable, staying within an inch of stock should be good, with 3.73's staying just under 27" or therabouts would be recommended. Mine has 4.10's and I went with 225 70 15 which I think is 28" (too lazy to pull up my spreadsheet), I went with that size for drivability as my size puts me at 75mph at 3k rpm and at 55 I can hold a slight incline in 5th that I couldn't with 29" tires...

225/70/15 is stock size on 4th gen (or at least that is what the 2007 says on the door sticker) and there are plenty of those out there..granted it is a bigger truck, but I would think they will look fine on a 3rd gen
