tire roaring question??

I have a 1995 ranger supercab 4x4. The problem I am having is that there is a loud roaring coming from what I think is the front tires. I just put new tires on it (not mud tires either), and have totally rebuilt the front end with every bearing, bushing, u-joint, and seal, and had it alined. The only ones I didn't put in new was the ball joints....I did all four of them about 70,000 miles ago. Now it roars when I'm going straight, and turning right, but when I turn left it stops the loud roar. What could it be?? I could see it being the tires if it did it all the time, but when turning left it goes completely away. Kind of like it takes the weight off the drives side as I turn and makes it stop. This is happening in 2wd with the hubs unlocked. Could the ball joint's be wore out? They don't show that they are. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Sounds like bad wheel bearings to me (most likely your driverside, if it quiets going left). Did you torque them correctly when you redid it?

Yeah, I torqued them to what the specs. said to torque them to. It did back off and got loose one time before and I caught it and retightened it....then those bearings ended up going out so I put a new rotor, seal, bearings, and a new spindle end and the two big nuts and big washer with the "tooth" on new. I checked them the other day and they seemed fine...could they still be going bad and me not know it??

Sounds like a wheelbearing....like junkie said...a wheel bearing will usually quiet down when you take the load off it. When you turn left, you take the weight off the left front wheel bearings)
Could also be something simple, like a scalloped tire. Easy to tell. Swap the front side to side and see if the roaring noise switches sides with the tires.

You put the big tooth washer on before the spindle nuts right? Thats what keeps the bearing from turning the nuts, as well as the little holes allowing excess grease to get out. And if you torqued them to spec its too much, Like I just found after 6 sets of bearings in 9 months. Hand tight plus 1/4 turn should be all you need the way it was explained to me. The whole zero preload thing. Were they new new tires, or new used tires? THey might have been worn uneven from a previous imbalance or bad alignment if they were used.

Yeah, I put the tooth washer with the holes in between the two nuts...the one has a little peg that sticks out, that the one I put on against the bearing, then lined the tooth up with the groove in the spindle and one of the holes in the washer with the peg, then put the other nut on and torqued it to 150 ft/lbs. Yes, they are brand new tires, haven't tried the swapping from side to side yet, but I did just get done putting new bearings and a seal in the drivers side and took it out and drove it....still the same....lol...roaring until you turn left??? Got any other ideas of what it could be???

Maybe the other side then?

What happens when you jack up and spin the wheels by hand? Do they turn smooth and freely? Any slop in them?

Yeah so I found the problem with your setup.......you cranked down to hard on the sarcasm, LOL. j/k I have no other ideas.
