I've recently bought a 2009 Ranger Sport 4X4 , the price was right . The previous owner had a left front wheel come off on the highway , hence … the cheap price . He had a quote prepared at a dealership after having the truck towed there , he was shocked at what the repairs would cost , seemed ok with having gotten ten years out of it , cut his losses so to speak and sold it to me . He's since bought a 2020 Ranger.

Here's my plan

The actual damage on the truck is not nearly as bad as what was written into the estimate . When the wheel came off it flailed around in the wheel opening some and then wound up under the truck . The brake rotor and control arm never made contact with the road as the estimate had suggested . I've replaced the five studs which were bent and beaten up from having been run with a loose wheel , the wheel and tire are also damaged but hold air and I was able to put the wheel on , torque it up and drive it home , to where it sits now.

Back to my plan …..... I have ordered four new steel pro comp rims , I will be picking up a set of 255/70R16 Goodyear duratracs this week , they are on sale .
The tire pressure light is on right now , I'm assuming there is at least one bad sensor , the rims on the truck are three matching stock wheels and an odd cheapo winter steel rim , all four tires match (Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain Adventure) and have some mileage left in them except the one that fell off , that one has a beatup sidewall. I'm going to replace the rims and tires with all new and will be buying new pressure sensors.

My question is ...…….. what sensors are compatable , as in , aftermarket ? or would I be better off with genuine Ford parts ?

I have new brake rotors and pads to go on when I have my tires mounted up and will be going through the vehicle to ensure that all is well and it's safe . I'll be doing a service , fluids , filters , etc , I don't know the maintenance history so will be going over it .

This truck runs and drives really nice , everything works , ice cold AC , no weird noises . I'm happy

TPMS sensors don't seem to matter much as far as reliability as long as they use the correct frequency. I've used aftermarket sensors on both the 2011 and 2019 with no issues. I can't remember who, but someone on here that is a regular knows where to get the right ones at a really good price. I've probably paid through the nose myself since I have just gone with whatever the tire shop orders. The 2011 has seen two different aftermarket sensors since new and they have worked just fine. The 2019 has them in the winter tires with the same result.

Thank's for that bit of info .

I'm thinking the sensors are 315khz , but I could use the advice of someone who could confirm that .

Everything I'm seeing is 315/314.9 MHz. So, your thinking appears to be correct.

The factory workshop manual for my 2009 specs 315mhz as well. Just as further assurance... :icon_thumby:

I'd get the OEM ones. I know they can run into a bit more money, but we have the Autell universal ones where I work, I've used the Dorman ones, they are all a pain to get programmed.

The OEM ones always work.
