TIre Pressure monitoring system

On some models of Ford, like the windstar. Usually with the passive TPMS, theres a reset button you have to press & hold after correcting the tries' pressure. Look up on Ford's website and do a search for 2008 Ranger Owners Manual. They specially listed it in the owners guide.

I'm thinking the tire shop might have removed them. Call the shop and ask.

The tire light on the Windstars are a tire rotation reminder. When it comes on, it's time to rotate tires, nothing to do with TPMS.

All 08 cars and light trucks have TPMS. Now what may have happened with desertfordranger truck is the shop switched over the sensors but did not retrain them which would set the lamp on. Driving around would train them so the lamp is now off.
The TPMS is part of the Smart Junction Box ( SJB formerly known as a GEM ) so you cannot disable the system.

I work at the ford dealer. I work on ford all day long.
There IS a sensor inside the tire mounted with a strap to the rim. It does not work off the abs sensor. The sensors are all programed in a secific sequence, they dont train themselves. You CANT put these sensors on wheels that are not designed for the sensors.

Yes its possible to put them on rims that are not designed for them, but if the tire goes flat you will damage the sensor, or durring installation of the tire you could damage them and they cost approx $200 a piece. If they are on aftermarket rims and get damaged they are not covered under warrenty at all, no if or buts about it.

Your choices here are to life with the light and keep your new rims, go back to the origonal rims and re-program your TPMS sensors, or put some black tape over the light.

ummmm..what is this new tire crap....you dont need it....if the tire looks flat...put in air....that works for me....damn high tech crap

:clapping:

Just put a piece of tape over the light so it won't bother you any more.

unfortunately the majority of the country isn't that smart.

i think it comes down to an issure of warrenty claims. Picture the customer comes in with 3 flat tires and has been driving on the like that for a day or so. Flat to the point that the tires are screwed and the rims are damaged.

All the customer needs to say is that they didn't notice, and they get it all under warrenty. Now theres a flashing blinking light in their face when they have low pressure in the tire. Now if they come in with 3 flat tires and tries that, they dont have a chance in hell to say that they didn't notice. Now it becomes neglect and they have to pay for it.

Thanks for all the input but the light has stayed off for 3 days of driving around now on custom rims without any sensors in there. Dude777 may be right but I am starting to think that what LearjetMinako is saying is really whats going on. If not and the band inside the tire on the rim theory is correct then how is the light off and not coming back on?@#$%
Thanks again all

well, just hope u dont ahve any warranty claims on your truck, cause lets say....if ur rear goes, OH u removed the tire pressur monitoring sensors, your warranty is void.....come on man, its a ford dealer, they dont want to have todo anything for free they have a reason not to

I went through this is the fall.

I had the same issue with my '08 when I wanted to put on winter rims. According to the Ford dealer I have the band-type sensors and the sensors are located exactly opposite the valve stems for balancing purposes. Another thing I learned from them was that if they are damaged from changing tires or anyone messing with them, they are not covered under warranty. I also read somewhere they cost approx. $150 each (Canadian).

Although the dealer had no real idea what would happen with the warning light if I switched rims, they said it wouldnt harm anything. So I installed my winter rims and tires (without sensors). My light comes on when I start the truck and blinks a few times then stay on. But this only lasts for a few days, then it goes out for almost 2 weeks. After that the cycles starts over again, leading me to think that it works with ignition cycles or starts. I have just learned to live with having to look at the warning light for 2 or 3 days at a time. No biggie.

Now that winter is over, my stock rims are back on...guess what? No light. And I didn't have to take the truck in to have the sensors "retrained".

My 07 started that crap when they replaced my steering wheel, smart box, and clockspring to make my horn stop blowing. They told me when I got over the redass to bring it back and they'd re calibrate it for free.
Meanwhile I put a nickle size stick-on USA Flag over the light.
I just passed 18,000 miles, wonder if I have the tire rotation deal? I guess it's like the oil change light reset on GM cars.
My 99 was a lot simpler.
