Currently I'm running 285 16" BF T/A's on my '04 4x4. No offence to anyone that likes them, but in 25 yrs of owning trucks, they are worst tires I've ever owned. Noisy, no traction, fast wearing. My driving habits are:
50% highway
25% gravel
15% offroad
10% city

So I need a real good all around tire. I dont want real aggressive because of the noise and the wear from the highway. I plan on either 285's or 305's. So whats everybody runnin? Likes/dislikes?

BFG All-Terrains?
I'm not sure there's a tire out there in existence that would be better in all 3 of the things you mention, myself...

The BFG MT or Goodyear MT/R would have more traction, but will wear even quicker (and would be noisier).
The Michelin LTX A/S or A/T would go the distance (quietly, too), but traction will be well under that of the BFG AT.

There are a lot of other A/T tires out there (Dunlop Radial Rover, Bridgestone Dueler AT, Procomp AT, General Grabber AT, Cooper Discover ST (along with all the small brands sold at some chain-retailers (Dakota, Futura, etc) many of which are made by Cooper), but I think most of those will just be stabs in the dark (most are a bit under the BFG's overall performance, although some people are quite happy with them. Many are a tad less expensive as well).
Why not just go with whichever tires it was you had better experience with?

With so many different mfgrs, each with so many options, I thought maybe someone had come across a tire I never thought about or even heard of. I was more looking for opinions on what experiences everyone had with their choice.
The BFG's I have, came with the truck when I bought it last Nov. with 75% left. These are the first BFGs Ive had and the traction is poor, in my opinion. Plus, they are extremely noisy on the highway.
I've had good luck with Bridgestone Duelers in the past, and thats what Im leaning towards.

i run a set of PROCOMP AT's they seem to wear good and handle mud, sand, gravel and also not noisey at all look them up

honestly i dont know what to tell you, if you arent happy with those you might not be happy with anything but you might want to try the goodyear wrangler silent armors, they should be a little quiter.

+2 with mini monster i run 33x12x50x15 pro comp AT's they worked well for me. Pretty quiet on the road and they come with a 50K warranty. I had the BFG AT's before that 31x10.50 and i got over 50K miles out of them. They wore very well and we very quiet.

I have a question for all of you b/f goodrich lovers. Do any of you work in a profession that sees all kinds of tires all day? I just trying to make sure that I am not missing something big at my job. Bf's are better than goodyears and generals but thats about it. They ALL take excessive wheel weights, are never round, and have little resistance to uneven tire wear. If a set of them was say, 150-200 cheaper than usual then yes, I would own them maybe. Sorry, just another opinion.

You will get the most for your money buying firestone destination a/t's or dueler a/t's. If you wanted to step it up maybe go with the dueler a/t revo. Also, pretty much any tire made by Dayton tire and rubber is good for the money. They make lemans, cooper, dayton, and mastercraft.

My BFGs have always taken less than 5 oz to balance (and that's on the 35s, too), and have never worn funny (rotated every 5000-7000 miles).
I dunno, maybe I just keep getting lucky every time (4 sets of them)? :icon_confused:

A buddy of mine ran Dueler A/Ts for some years, seemed happy with them. I don't think they'd outlast the BFG ATs though (he got about 45K out of them IIRC).

+1 with 4x4junkie, ive worked at discount tire for 2 years and have bfgs on both my ranger and my dads f 350 and never had any problems at all, 3 out of four guys that have 4x4s that i work with have them and the fourth is looking at selling his brand new goodyears to put a set of bfgs on his heep. i have however encountered a few people who dont like them though. IMO the revos (and pretty much all bridgestones) are junk, my dad had those before his bfgs and ill never run them again. firestones are junk IMO too. just my 2 cents

I currently have 265/75R15 goodyear wrangler AT on my stock 94 ranger. I don't have any experience with bf goodrich tires but I will be getting some mt's this summer just for the mud. my wranglers are quiet, and have worked well on pavement/gravel/offroad. I have no complaints about their performance on gravel/sand/general offroading. I can't comment on wear as I've only put 20,000 kms on since I got the truck but they seem to be pretty good. The only thing I don't like is they are quite slick on snow and I drive on packed snow and ice for 5-6 months of the year. It just makes for fun driving:icon_hornsup:

I bought my Ranger with a set of 33x12.5x15 BFG Mud Terrains on it and they have about 75% tread. A pretty good all around tire in my opinion. Great traction in mud, sand, generally all off-roading I've done. Highway noise is kind of high, although, and maybe it's just me,the noise kind of becomes nice to listen to sometimes. The tread is pretty aggressive so going less than 5-10mph on pavement gets a little bumpy. As an all around tire I'd recommend it, plus it looks pretty cool and the prices aren't too bad either.

I agree with Junkie, the BFG A/T is a great tire for what you want. I don't understand how they're extremely noisy, they're pretty damn quiet to me, maybe get a louder exhaust or listen to the radio at more than 20db... The Toyo MT is a more agressive tire but they last a long time (I'd say comparable to the BFG AT) and have the same noise level.
