Tire opinions?

i might have an idea, try these "parnelli jone dirt grips", my mom had some on her, dodge, its not an m/t terrain, but its not really an a/t, they did her great all around, and i think there a pretty cheap tire, like at most prob around 200 each. search for them

I just put a set of BFG's on my F-250. I am actually disappointed... Not in the tire, but in the fact that I was tooling around in 20.4 inches of snow a couple weeks ago in 2WD.

The truck used to be a sled, now it's like a tank. I only used 4WD when taking off fast and dragging people out of ditches.

I love my BFG's.

alot of ppl like the bfg, mud terrains, i just dont want them bcuz everyone has them, but i think they are a great tire, all around, not exceeding in any category but, great in all

I had bad luck w/ the bfg m/t. but I have had nothing but good luck running wild country's they take every thing that you throw at them and more. when my stock good years die that is the brand i will go with. But got to give some credit to toyo open country's also

yeah about those wild countrys, my step dad has a pair of those on his nissan hardbody, and they take him everywhere especially since hes locked up but his nephew has a pair of tsl swompers on his gmc and the Nissan can go just as many places if not exceed further sometimes, but where do u buy the wild countrys, les Schwab? my step dad got his from the junkyard like 12 tires for 800 bucks bcuz they were used but nearly brand new

Currently I'm running 285 16" BF T/A's on my '04 4x4. No offence to anyone that likes them, but in 25 yrs of owning trucks, they are worst tires I've ever owned. Noisy, no traction, fast wearing.

For the record I think we may be talking about two different tires, BFG uses T/A on just about all of their truck tires, with a short discription along with it (All-Terrain, Long Trail, Rugged Trail...) Some of those are not that great of tires, but the All-Terrein is one of (if not the) the best.

The ones I have are BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A's, and yes, I've heard all the hype over the years about these things, hence, the disclaimer. I'm not bashing those who like them, but no amount of anyone telling me that these tires are good is going to change my mind. I've owned other tires that have outperformed these, maybe there's other ones out there that outperform the ones I have run.

the parnellis definitely arent a bad tire but they are going to be quite a bit louder than the bfg ats.

yeah they are a little louder than alot of other tires, bcuz of the wierd tread design

I don't like them either but the last thing I'd call them is extremly loud, you must have no idea what a loud tire is... If you've had other tires that you've likes better than run them by all means...

loud bfg at?

i like coopers. cooper makes the pro comp at...been running those and like them alot. 305 16's on an 88 ext cab, v8 power.

real impressed with them all winter.

Goodyear MT/R's there a kick ass tire, on a 2wd ranger my buddy got about 60k miles out of his before the wore on the edges due to a bad alingment.

i think anyone that has run them know that they arent exactly the cheapest tires, but i really think they are worth the money.i just wont pony up for them on a truck on a budget

+1 and honestly any mud terrain is going to be significantly noisier. im just curious also, what tires did you run that you liked better?

I used to run Bridgestone Duelers, Goodyear Wrangler AT/S, and Michelin LTX. A neighbour here has the same truck with Goodyear Wrangler AT/S and its nowhere near as noisy as mine. Albeit, we dont have the best highways in the country, so that may have something to do with it.

Mine have about 1/3 gone (on the truck when I bought it) They seem to be wearing even and not too fast. Maybe I expected more performance than what they are. Maybe its just me?!

the only thing i can think of is maybe because the size you are running 285/75/16 is probably a load range D tire (which will be a little noiser than a standard or load range C) which is far more than a ranger will ever require but i still dont think that would make much of a difference. the michelin LTXs will be quiter but offroad performance wont even compare. i would check out the goodyear wrangler silent armors, they sent some guys from our shop (discount tire) to do a test of those VS LTXs (and a couple others i think) and they said the goodyear outperformed the michelin in pretty much every test.
