Im fittin to get myself some new tire for my 1999 ford ranger xlt RWD. I want them to look big and work well off road. I was wondering what would be a good tire to get thats not too expensive. thanks

simple answer. DC Crushers. sence you are going to drive it on the road you will want a radial ply tire. and the DC Crusher is the best off road radial ply tire i have ever seen. road manners are not bad for a mud tire, and in the mud id take them over TSL's any day. as for how they look. Iv got a set of them in 35x12.50R15, and some 35" boggers. they actualy are the exact same size. bolth messure 34.8" tall with tread widths of 9.8"wide. but the boggers look tiny next to them. they have a realy cool looking tread pattern, and awsome looking side walls. only part of your discription they dont fit is that they are not cheep. but you will get what you pay for. they are well worth it.

lets start with the lift.
if u dont have any at all u cant go bigger than 30"s or it will rub.
so stick your search to 235/75 or 30x9.50. and get the best m/t tire u can.

Yeah 35s on a 2WD may not work too well.

i wasent sugesting that he go for 35"s i was just stating that my 35" Crushers look huge next to my 35" boggers.

It's funny how different tires, even though they're the same identical sizes, look so different. I've noticed that on several occasions.

looks like the smallest tire they make for that tire is 31" so going with RHS's post you would need smoe kind of lift to fit them. link to there site.

Here is where it really boils down to what you intend on doing with the truck, what motor is in it, and what gears you have.

31's will fit on a 99 without any real rub issues. But you need the gears and motor to turn 'em, for example a 4 cyl with 3.45 gears is going to be a total dog with 31's, no two ways about it, but a 4 cyl with 4.10 gears might be ok with 31's.

On my 2000 2wd Ranger with a 3.0L, 5-speed and 3.73 gears, I ran mud tires for a little while, but they tend to wear a bit faster than AT tires and I had a lot of driving to do. So I took the muds off and only used them when I was going off-roading (now that I have my choptop, the Ranger sees no real offroading). I picked a rather aggressive patterned AT tire in 235/75/15 and ran with it. For all-around use, that was the way to go, IMHO. I went with something a little more aggressive than the BFG AT tires. Usually runs around $100 a tire to find something with a good bite.
