wat is the auxilary shaft on my truck its a 1984 2.3 xls 5 spd 4x4

on the front of your engine behind the timing cover there is 3 sprockets. 1 for the crankshaft, one for the camshaft at the top, and one for the aux shaft.

the aux shaft drives the distributor which drives the oil pump.

i don't know what you're asking, but you would need to get the cam and aux sprockets properly timed to the crankshaft and then verify the distributor timing.

if you haven't messed with the aux shaft then you just need to time the distributor

i want to check my dist crank and cam to make sure they are all in time the way the should be cause my truck is getting horrible mileage

there is a round rubber plug on your timing cover at the top of the engine, remove that and turn the CLOCKWISE crankshaft by hand until the mark on the pulley lines up with the 0 or TDC mark on the timing cover.. then check through that hole and see if the camshaft marked are lined up. if you see no marks then turn the crankshaft 1 more turn and line it up again. then check the cam.

if the camshaft is ok then you'll need a timing light.

warm the engine to normal operating temperature and make sure it idles ok then shut it off

connect the timing light to the number 1 spark plug wire, remove the spout connector near the distributor and start the engine. the spout connector is usually a 1 wire plug or a 2 wire plug with a shorting cap in it.

at this time you check ignition timing by shining the timing light on the crankshaft timing marks, timing should be 10degrees BTDC
