Timing

I am not sure how it would work out, if being off however far you are off is comes out as the same as a full space between cylinder hits or not.

To be safe, I say you gotta get it right.

hey danger, didn'y you say your plugs had to bet the same way mine are? How did the timing go for you?

My timing is flawless. You can put number one plug on any tower, as long as the number one piston is on tdc and the rotor is at a tower and that wire goes to number one and the rest follow the timing order. How I know this, I've done it as a test. My dads is number one plug wire is on his number three and it runs perfectly.

For the non feedback carb you need a different carb spacer than the one that was under the stock carb. Part # felpro 60529 and it runs about $18 it is the same thickness as the stock spacer but it plugs the vacuum leak on the bottom of the carb where the TPS used to be. The gaskets on the spacer are hard so you will need a regular carb gasket between the spacer and the carb.

I just double checked mine, #1 plug wire goes to the tower marked #1 on the cap.

Well i bought that one and i have a non feed back carb.

The number 1 on the cap is to help you remember what the first wire is so that you can help with putting wires on the correct plugs and to help you with setup since you can't see the rotor. I put mine as close to number one on the cap when I dropped my dizzy in it but still got a tooth behind and that was enough that I couldn't turn the dizzy enough to get it close to correct so moving the spark plug wires all counter clock wise was the next option and it worked. I can go hook up my timing light to number one wire, which is on "number six tower" and it be in perfect time because of everything I have said.

I'll try to get you pics. of my dampner tomorrow to help you see what your looking for.

So i shouldn't use the gaskets on the spacer?

I wasn't for sure if you could get enough adjustment.

It would also depend on which way you were off too. (if you need to go ahead or behind)

Correct. My number one is where my number 6 is.
That's fine as long as you have enough room to turn the distributor far enough to set the timing correctly. I seem to remember the lift hook being in the way on mine. I removed mine and put it back 120° off so I would have more room for adjustment. The rotor still pointed to the same spot as it would if in the normal position, just the base was turned.

If the carb you got was a rebuilt carb and was resurfaced you might not need the gasket between the spacer and the carb but I would put one there anyway just in case and tighten the nuts down slow and even a little at a time until it is good and snug dont reef on them. After it goes through a few warm up cycles make sure it is still snug.

"So i am not going to be able to time this thing at all with the dizzy being off 1?"
YES you can time it - what you will be doing is finding when the spark goes to the #`1 plug - it doesn't matter which cap tower feeds the spark.

If you can't clean the dampener as of yet, find TDC and estimate where 10 degrees would be; better than a wild guess. (roughly 1/2 to 5/8 before TDC)

I am just going to wait till i can get the paint off. I cant wait till i get this finished. I miss my B2 a lot .

But i am amazed on how easily my B2 starts now. I barely have to touch the gas and it start on the first turn even when it is 32*F out. :headbang:

And Danger, did you put a lift on your ranger?

Check out my build thread Twister, the link is in my signature, it will tell you what has been done to my Ranger in the past few months and what future plans I have for it.
