:icon_confused:I have a 1994 Ford Ranger-I blew up the muffler-put in new Catalytic converter and Heartthrob exhaust; I have fuel pressure at filter and fuel rail: I have fire at ignition packs; the truck will crank, but not start; it tries to fire but tries to backfire also; code reader pulls nothing but a 111 and a 10;PLEASE HELP!

111 is a clear code, no? How the hell did you blow up a muffler?

Check your basics... check compression, plugs, wires, firing order, it'll run on 2 cylinders (TRUST me on that one hehe), so I'd guess the whole injector bank didn't fail... when it gets started you can hear the injectors fire with a stethoscope.

And don't break the vacuum lines going around the driver side of the intake manifold/throttle body (did that one too... it runs like crap...)

Muffler was called by misfire by my understanding-unburnt fuel into exhaust system via exhaust ports; It will not run at all, just crank and try to backfire when cranking-that is why I am leaning toward timing belt in am.

It sounds to me like the engine jumped time. That would account for everything. The backfire, the no start, the exploded muffler (it threw spark on full fuel charge with the exhaust valve open.

Do a compression test quick, I bet you find something around 50 PSI.

Check that cam timing, if it's off, replace it. I highly recommend the Gates belt, and a new tensioner.

On it in AM, thanks, I AM SOOOOOOOOO thankful for this site! Will catch everyone up tommorrow!

It's not hard to do a timing belt job on the 2.3, and you best do the water pump while your there for the $60 of headache you will save yourself.

1/2" drive 10mm... or you will have a real headache trying to tear the thing apart.

I had to custom-bend an old prybar to move the tensioner enough to get the belt on, so don't be surprised when that's a PITA.

Made it all the way down to steering pump bracket today. Now I am trying to find all the bolts(even with the pics), to get the cover off.

maybe apples and oranges. But I blew up 2 mufflers on my Jeep. Culprit turned out to be a bad coil.

What is the labor time for a pro to do this timing belt job? This has been h..ll! Will have new belt on in am, and timing set. Then, I can rebuild it!

Well, you've got a bit to go to beat my record...3 mufflers blown wide open...one was distributor gear stripped...one was due to being too cold and cranking too much...one was similar to the second one but I also added some quick start to the mix making a much bigger bang for my $45 muffler...

A pro would cost you much more than it's worth to install a timing belt...I looked into that option a few years back and decided (after reading this site) that it was easier than I thought...and did my first belt in under two hours...but I have a carb and much easier setup...

It can be done...but don't put a new muffler on till you test it...:)

The last bolt that you're most likely missing is accessible from underneath the truck. I think its going from driver to passenger side, right above the crossmember. Only accessible with a normal size wrench or maybe a 3/8 ratchet.

I was doing pullups on the wrench before it broke loose.

OK, timing belt on, timing dead on, still firing and cranking, but not starting. What now?????????Fire at coil packs and trying to start. Fuel pressure at rail. Code 111 and 10 on koeo.Pulling thy hair out!

Going to check icm and cps I think now, suggestions?
