Can the timing be adjusted on an 89 2.3?I am assuming not since it has the DIS ignition system but if it can how do you go about doing it?My 89 is having hard starting issues which I believe is due to the altitude change since it showed up right after I moved from Phoenix to Flagstaff AZ.A computer test showed no codes and the plugs, wires and fuel filter are all new.

the only way to adjust the timing would be with an offset crank key, but that would adjust the cam timing too, unless you slotted the 4 bolt holes on the crank pulley

but that being said, try unplugging the battery for like 15 minutes then take it for a drive to let it re learn things... it could just need to be reset things for the altitude change

I did try that already.I have checked about everything I can think of and it still seems like timing. It seems to be getting good spark so I will check the fuel system a little better.

i remember reading somewhere that the trucks at higher altitudes were programmed different. maybe go to a local salvage yard and see about getting a computer, if the price is right it's worth a try.
