Timing Chain Questions

And "they all say" it'll be easy to sell when you're finished.
Let’s just say it may get returned back to Amazon cause it didn’t work😂

Don't get that timing tool kit!!!! I got mine, the "OEM" OTC kit on eBay for $150 used. This is something there's no need to buy new, just make sure it's all there when you buy on eBay. As far as parts for the timing stuff, I would get all the cassettes on Rock Auto and buy OEM Ford tensioners from a dealership or reputable seller so you can avoid fakes.

I just did the job on my truck this past fall/winter and it wasn't too hard at all.

Make sure you have the good quality tools for timing the cams. I feel that is the most critical part of the cam timing chain system rebuild.
Yes and the best part is, when you use the timing tool kit it is literally impossible to time the engine wrong. It sucks having to buy it but it does take every bit of guess work out.

What’s the oem otc kit? Is the one I shared a picture of not otc? I mean I already purchased it so when I’m done using it, I’ll just return it😂, also, I got the complete mellings kit which should good because it was out of stock for a while and I was in direct contact with mellings discussing when my order would be filled so it shouldn’t be fake.

Check out the YouTube channel FordTechMakuloco, in one of his video descriptions he lists the mellings kit he uses and it seems like a lot of people reference his videos in doing there timing chains and it seems like he knows his stuff, Mellings does seem like a quality reputable OE brand to use compared to motorcraft, unless you guys think I should return that kit and just buy all motorcraft.

I was trying to help you by letting you know you can buy it used and save $140. I have no clue if Melling is good or not but it probably is fine. In my opinion there is no need to replace any of your timing chains or sprockets if you are doing it is preventative maintenance and not because you had a failure. From what I gather the stock chains last over 400k miles easily. Also by not doing the chains and sprockets you won't have to replace the two jackshaft bolts that are torque to yield and that'll save you another $50+.

I saw the thread to late I guess but that is why I suggested to just buy new cassettes, guides and tensioners. You're talking $150 instead of a $400 kit.

It's possible to get the front upper cassette bolt out past the jackshaft sprocket and chain (I know because I did it).

Gotcha gotcha, yeah I already bought all the torque to yield bolts and stuff and the rear jack shaft bolt has to come out anyways. I’m going to replace the chains while I’m there cause why not ya know. My main camshaft chain was riding on bare metal so that one for sure is getting replaced lol

Mellings makes a lot of the OEM timing components for FORD. Can't say for sure on these engines, but I suspect that they are the OEM here too.
