hi everyone.
i have a 94 ranger with the 2.3 motor. my timing belt broke a couple of weeks ago and i have been trying ever since to repair it.
i have everything off and fresh water pump and thermostat ready. i cannot figure out how to get the tensioner to move so i can put the new belt on.
i have searched this site and i must be the only one that can't figure it out! (i do have some nerve damage issues going on also and it give me problems with cognitive thought.) checkers is going to be wanting their puller back soon also!
i don't see any way to get leverage to be able to pry on it because of the plastic rear timing belt cover. can you guys help me with this?
thanks in advance!

well make sure you have both the lock bolt loose AND the main center bolt. Then normally I just wedge a long prybar with the angled tip down into there from the top amd gently wedge it against anythign I can find in the area. With both of the the bolts loose it really doesnt take much force to move the tensioner back.

+1

Both bolts need to be loose otherwise you probably won't be able to move it. Again like said, you don't need the special tool like the book says. Crowbar works great!

i have turned into such an idiot anymore that i could not see the simple solution. i should have it up and running in a couple of days. the dodge has been getting too expensive!
thanks again!
