I have another thread here about low power under 3000 rpms. I started this thread to try to get more responses for help.
I still haven't gotten the power problem solved and I am now pretty sure I found the cause, now I need the cure...
I pulled the SPOUT plug and checked timing with a light. The timing is setting steady at 25°btc at idle. When I rev the engine, the timing jumps very breifly toward TC then returns to 25° at holds steady there pretty much regardless of rpms when revving. This would explain the truck having no power at low rpm's and coming to life above 3000 and continuing to pull well up to at least 4000 rpms.
So what is responsible for timing advance besides the ecm?
If you read the other thread, you'll see I have replaced plugs, wires, pcv, timing belt, all filters, fuel pump, replaced MAF, cleaned MAF, cleaned IAC, cleaned throttle body, replaced rear axle too.
I rechecked the timing marks today. I took pictures with my camera phone in each of the inspection holes on the belt cover. At TDC all the marks are lined up exactly.
Also I tried the timing light on both coil packs. I am getting intermittent signal loss to the timing light (loss of spark?) when revved up on #1 wire on the front coil. Sometimes it won't trigger the light for a second or two at a time. The rear coil gives a much steadier signal.
Other than low power under 3000-3200rpms, the truck starts, idles and runs fine. No knocks, pings or oil consumption. Gas mileage is 17mpg and hasn't varied at all, even with all the tuneup I have done since I bought the truck a few months ago.
Any help appreciated.
