Time for a motor flush?

I see said the blind man !
Read that mountain of hi tech text and I see I have been thoroughly corrected. :)

My suggestion....get rid of that junk Fram filter and put a motorcraft back on it. Fram's have a tendency of draining back. Cheap junk inside of them.

I've been using Fram filters for years and haven't had a problem so far.

1974 Plymouth Satellite - 127k (RIP)
1980 Ford Mustang - 220k
1986 Ford Thunderbird - 124k
1991 Pontiac Sunbird - 134k
1992 Toyota Camry - 250k
1982 Yamaha 650cc - 38k (RIP)
1990 Ford Ranger - 140k?
1998 Chevy Mailbu - 102k
1986 Ford Thunderbird(#2) - 99k
2005 Chevy Cavilier - 59k
*2008 Chevy Impala - 43k (crap trans)
*1992 Ford Ranger - 166k (odo descrepancy)
*2009 Honda Shadow - 3k
*2010 Ford Ranger - 4k (factory maintenance plan)
All Fram filters, except the last one. Ford will maintain that one for the next 75k. Then, who knows? (Think I got them all...* marks current vehicles)

Put 1/2 a quart of ATF in the engine about 100 or so miles before you change the oil. Use motorcraft oil filters and after a few times doing that should clean out the sludge just keep an eye on it and the oil pressure. You can do a compression test and check the vacuum pressure to determine if it is rings or valve seals causing the loss of oil if your not dripping somewhere. Does it smoke when you start it or when it is running. You dont want to run it extended periods with additives in the crankcase, ATF is cheap and works just as good as any oil treatment.

ive done the atf trick, being im over 200k miles i put a whole quart in it :icon_hornsup: (dont recommend for anyone else)
put her on the lift after a week running it and when i pulled the drain plug gulps of crap came out.
i did it a few times because i was scared that i mighta knocked some crap down to the oil pickup but it worked great!

While I agree with your statement about throwing the motorcraft on it... Fram isn't the worst filter on the market. In fact, Champ Labs Ecore filters are. I have been doing an oil filter study lately, and my findings are that YES fram filters do have a big flaw, and it has to do with the anti-drain back valve floating loosely inside the canister.

Here is just one video... I have more in the works. Just today, I hacked up a Purolator classic and PureOne. All my filters (except for the cummins filters) are for the same applications... they'll fit anywhere a Motorcraft FL-1A will. In fact, I'm waiting on a FL-1A as we speak... my buddy from the dealership is gonna yoink a Mopar Cummins filter and a Motorcraft filter for me.

Yes, I do have this much free time...

Now, how I feel about engine flushes... BAD! All you are doing is freeing up the sludge, where is it going to go? More than likely it'll clog up other oil passages. Even car/truck manufacturers say not to do this. Remember the issues with the JiffyLubes down in Arizona? They were flushing engines, only to have their customers pissed off because they literally killed their engines.

You make an interesting point, however, if the oil isn't circulating properly as it is, its only a matter of time before it self-destructs anyway. Besides, unless I am mistaken, the motor probably has over 200k towing miles on it anyway (5-digit odo + incorrect speedo gear = wtf?). Its nothing if not tired... Just trying to squeeze a little life out of it before it works itself to the boneyard.
