I bought this 1989 Ford Ranger that came with this 4.0 v6 with the manual transmission and transfer case in the cab. On the top right of the picture you can see that the air intake is touching the firewall, on the left half of the picture you can see that it's like it's tilted back. I think the guy that had it before me was doing a 2.9 to a 4.0 swap. I've read that you've gotta drill new holes for the engine mounts. I'm thinking that's the reason but not 100% sure any thoughts??

Without a trans, theres nothing to support the front to rear weight of the engine.

Also, remove 4.0, replace with 2.9.

I was about to say the same a PJ that there is no rear support to hold the engine level in the engine bay.

The trans ive got will hook up to the 4.0 I just have to reset the engine the right way. Once I put the trans and the cross member back on it should lean forward right?

Depends. They're good at different things.

4.0 is low and slow torque.

2.9 is a flat power band that can be modded to hell and back.

My 4.0 is on an engine stand, and there it will stay.

My 2.9 is under rebuild as a turbo build.

All depends on what you want out of the truck.

Just use the 4.0L... you have it.

If you ever want to change things up... consider ALL options.

Daily driver and trail riding is all I do

Didn't realize you didn't have the 2.9 anymore. Go with the 4.0 for now.

I feel REALLY dirty after typing that. I will now go wash myself with soap.

No worries, I'm rather outspoken on my distaste for the 4.0 ohv. I pee on mine frequently.

Engines is goes vroom.
