4.0L, 201,000 miles.
New plugs, new fuel filter, new air filter, clean MAF, new O2 sensors, running 87 octane fuel, no CEL, no other symptoms

When first started in the morning there is a very noticeable ticking noise at all RPMs, increases in speed directly with RPM, but it gradually goes away once the temperature needle starts moving up. Ticking is completely gone when the motor warms up.

Is this something I should worry about?

Sounds to me like the usual lifter tap that's common to all 4.0L with high mileage. Nothing to really be concerned about. It occurs because of oil starvation to the heads or dirty oil. It doesn't decrease performance to notice; it's only irritating at most.

Has anyone had success in adjusted the lifters on these puppies?

make 1 or 2 tanks fuel better octane(91-93-94)This changes nothing funcitional engine and price. Come back to the same price / miles traveled) This will clean your entire system and run better) and see if your oil not is dirty to see if a change oil more often 2,500 miles

I have had BELTS that made a ticking sound when first started. The proper thing to do is to raise the hood before starting and then listen closely to KNOW where the tick is coming from.

If it is indeed a lifter noise and it does SHUT UP then don't worry about it. Once it shuts up there should be no abnormal wear.
If the engine is well worn and several lifters are complaining all day long, the repair is to install slightly LONGER push rods. These should be available at the dealer and perhaps even the local parts house.
