So I've noticed a thumping noise that speeds up when I am going faster, I can feel it in my floorboard but I don't think it's coming from the front since I don't feel anything in the steering wheel. Also when I am on the gas it goes away, or is at least considerably less noticeable, It's the loudest/hardest when I am coasting......

any Ideas?:icon_confused:

Did you check the drive shaft to see if somebody put a zip tie on it? Thats the first thing that comes to mind for me.

sounds like your speaking from experience lol, I was thinking about it, if my u-joints were going would that cause it?

Maybe the driveshaft is sliding forward and backward on the splines? Try to listen as best as you can to determine if the sound is coming from the front or the back. I know thats a obvious suggestion, but its all I can think of at the moment.

Check the greese on your drive shaft slip. If it ain't lubed up well it'll create a little thump when ya get on the skinny petal.

I experienced the same problem. Ended up being the bolts holding the driveshaft together at the U-joints had vibrated loose, when you accelerate and put them in a bind there's no rattle, but when you coast it lets the freeplay get noticed... try tightening them up... they were 12-point bolt heads on mine, 12mm if I recall correctly.

I had the same thing happen and turned out to be a bad driver side u-joint

yeah still there, it's definitely coming from behind me, drive shaft is solid, no movement, could my rear dif be going?

Jack up your rear, (if it's an open diff) spin one tire, the other should spin backwards, and then bring it to a stop suddenly and see if that clunk matches the regular clunk you heard you might wanna investiage the diff.

I'll go check that right now, if it is the diff I guess that just means I hafta put in the 8.8 :D

this might sound like a novice question but how much play should there be in the rear diff, for instance when i spin the tire and stop it should the other side stop instantly or no?

There should be some play. Somewhere like around 10* worth or if looking at a clock between 1200 to 1230 with the little hand.

And just to be sure, did you check your tires for any lumps in the tread?

Did you ever figure this one out?

I have a similar problem, just put a post out there last night. Same symptoms as yours accept it sounds like it is coming from the front.
