Thumping noise

Hello everyone, great site! I seached but can't seem to find a solution. I have an 07 level 2 ranger, bought new. Has the 4.0 engine. It just began making a thumping like noise at idle. I took the air box apart and the noise was amplified greatly. It's coming up the air intake from the front of engine. It's an automatic, non turbo. It doesn't affect performance that I can notice. But it certainly turns heads in a bad way. LOL Any thoughts? Thanks
