I read a thread about putting a light coat of lithium grease on the face of my throwout bearing. I have some lithium "based" bearing grease (red) that I use for balljoints and axle bearings. Is this type of grease ok for the throwout bearing?

Never heard of that, but I suppose it may help with rust prevention and squeaking during pedal depression. I always put some on the back where it contacts the release lever, or in the case of the ranger the slave cylinder.
I don't know that it makes any huge difference whether you do or don't put grease there or which kind.

my ball joints came paked with that stuff but the ford moly - b lithium grease would be good
