2000 3.0l ranger 4x4 Driving home from work I noticed the check engine lights on so I almost make it home and the truck starts losing power and bucking then dies I could only start it with my foot mashing the gas to the floor it would fire sputter and die just that quick so I take it to the repair shop and they tell me $1400 and it's my flex fuel sensor so I'm like naw so I go online and buy the $150 sensor that pro1engineering sells to fix my problem. Well that didn't work so I went to oreillys to have them check the codes. Here's the codes
P0176 flex fuel sensor
P1747
P0743
P0750 auto transmission solenoid
P0755 auto transmission plug
P0760
P1451 evap
P0135 o2 sensor
P0155 o2 sensor
P1409 egr valve solenoid

Would this all go away if I pony up for the $600 flex fuel sensor that the guy was gunna charge me $1400 or is my whole computer bad. The guy at oreillys sad he never seen so many codes. As of right now I disconnected the battery and it will at least start and run but when I shift it into gear and hit the gas it sounds like it's missing or bogging and won't go over 2000rpm

So engine was running fine and no CEL(check engine light)...........then one day CEL comes on and engines starts to die.

This is way different than CEL had been on for a while, so had several codes built up in memory, and then one day it started running rough and died.

The Flex Fuel emulator/replicator does work, if the flex fuel sensor was the problem in the first place.

If CEL just came on then I would suspect the C309 connector, a more common issue with the 2000/2001 Rangers, there is a connector under the drivers seat, wires from the cab run thru the floor to the underside of the cab using this connector, C309 on a 2000.

TSB is here: http://www.fordrangerforum.com/elec...in-2000-2001-ranger-electrical-connector.html

I would look at the inside of this connector first and see if water got in.
That would account for most of the codes

I'm going to check cause that same day my window was down an we had a torrential rainfall

I just wanna know why you spent 150$ before diagnosing the problem?

Same reason we all did, and still do, because we thought that was the problem.

Now if he went out a bought a new pair of tires for $150, to fix Flex Fuel sensor issue then I might think the diagnoses process had gone a bit off the rails :)

Over time and money spent we learn that "codes" are not written in plain english, a sensor problem code can mean sensor is working fine, or sensor is bad, wiring is fine or wiring is bad, computer is fine or computer is bad.
So a code doesn't really mean much more than "check out this one system".

depends on what the shop told him.

when the FF sensor goes bad an out of range code is set.
the proper diagnostic tool will read the sensors output, if its hi, low, or way out.
the signal is a 50% square wave, the frequency changes with alcohol level.
I have a replicator in my 2000 FF, been running fine for about 6 years.
that unit does not "sense" the alcohol content, it simply is a signal generator that outputs a 10% alcohol signal no matter what is in the lines.
that means stay away from E85.
back then the wires needed to be spliced as no exact connectors were available.
does the unit from pro1engineering have the connector?

if you know someone with an Ocilloscope you can check the waveform and determine exactly what the output is.
the acceptable output frequencies are in the service manual, they are the same as a Taurus FF for same year.

that's exactly what my 2000 did.
25 miles on the freeway ok, began stumbling, then within 3 miles it was dead on the side of the road.
