My fiance made fun of my truck the other day and it promptly threw the check engine light on..... Said you've spent more on this truck than you paid for it (so I'm in it for $2500 lol) Anyways it threw a code 223 and 224 which are
223 (M) Dual Plug (DPI), SPOUT or IDM circuit fault - Ignition Systems
224 (M) Failure in ignition coil primary circuit - Ignition Systems

This leads me to believe that one of the ignition coils is bad and after a quick look around the engine bay there are no loose, exposed, cracked wires/connections. It now doesn't want to start like one or more cylinders isn't firing but as soon as it catches it runs like a top but doesn't do the high idle/warm up sequence(can smell the light gasoline smell on startup). Since only the one pack is used on start up it makes sense to me that it runs rough off the bad pack until the second one kicks in then runs great but I'm just wanting to check. I need to test the packs but I'm just checking to see if there are any common problems in the harness or anything I'm missing before I go spending money on a pack (or two)

For that matter who makes a solid aftermarket pack? I may go accel just because it's pretty cheap and on the inside it makes me feel special to have name brand aftermarket gear on my lil beatuptruck lol. Looking for facts and opinions.

you can check the coil packs with a multimeter, also have the ICM tested, most parts stores do it for free.

Yep bad primary coil, went ahead and popped for some accels, gotta killer deal for a pair new in the box. Had them swapped out in around 20min then fired the ol' girl up. Lit on the first hit for the first time in a while. Then the test drive.... and HOLY WOW I bet I gained 25HP at least:yahoo: (If you believe that..... I'm sorry for your life:icon_rofl:)

In all honesty it does feel way smoother and a little peppier but thats because of the one bad coil and the others on the way out I'm pretty sure so it wasn't hitting quite right on every lick especially at lower rpms (blowing out the spark(s) plug gap to big for weak spark, etc, I guess. Over all happy the trucks running good and smooth for now and it would be totally awesome if having some new packs in there picks up a little mpg.
