I have a 1999 Ranger 6cyl 3 liter 4x4. My RPMs race when I engage clutch to shift. I had the TPS replaced by Ford July 2012. Once again when I push in the clutch to shift my RPMs rev to 3000-3500. Why would the TPS be out again. What else could it be?

We got a 99 with a 3.0L but haven't had problems with it so don't know the setup.

In the setups I know I would wonder if the actual throttle cable is sticking. My original BII throttle cable got rusty after 10 years and started sticking. That was a 2.9L however. You have 15 years on that 99 so doesn't seem impossible.

Other thing is perhaps the problem was the cable harness. Replacing the sensor resolved a contact issue that just now has come back.

Just some gross speculation.

Do you have a code indicating problem with TPS?

You don't have a TPS problem, you have a vacuum leak, or your IAC is stuck. Or your throttle isn't closing all the way.
