I went to do the throttle cable mod to my truck('96 3.0) but when i went under there i got confused. There is no spring on my throttle cable and I have no kickdown cable. Will putting zip ties on my cable put too much stress on the cable, or is it ok to do? And am I supposed to have a spring on there or did my year not have one? thanks

i did the throttle cable mod today and was surprised at how much of a difference it actually made.

Ive searched for hours about this. ive looked at the one in the tech library, and at posts on other forums and searched etc. As far as i can tell, but it is a pita to get under the dash, I only have one cable and no spring down there and i wasnt sure if there was supposed to be a spring but its somehow gone now or if some years didnt have springs. I dont really want to break my cable or anything if I do this wrong.

anyone have a 96 automatic that could check their throttle cable for me? thanks

if its like my 93 your spring is by the throttlebody itself under the black piece held on w/ a zip tie. the most your cable will do is stretch some more, all your doing is taking up some slack in the cable. leave some play and you should be fine, say about 1/8 inch. the dif is still noticeable, and you dont have to take out all the slack, just tighten it up a hair. my trk has a rod on the end of the cable at the throttlebody, ive considered stacking washers in it one time but decided it would be best left alone. just do what the instructions say but leave a hair bit of slack and you will be fine.

well i havent really noticed much difference riding around town but i have yet to get it on the highway which is where i needed it most. i checked my throttle body and its opening all the way and theres still a bit of slack so i should be good to go
