New guy here. :bye: So first off.......Hello everybody!!!

I really need some help and this looked like the place to find some answers (good or bad). So don't be shy.

I have a 92 Ranger 4x4 extended cab with a 2.9 liter.

So, here is my problem.........

The lower coiled-spring on the outside of my throttle body broke, so now the throttle stays wide open and won't return closed. This happend a year ago on the freeway during rush-hour. So, I burned up my clutch which is now fixed, but the throttle body needs attention now. So, I'm going to list a couple of questions below and hopefully get some info. :icon_thumby:

Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Is it possible to get a new spring, or do I have to replace the whole throttle body??
If I can get a spring or the part I need, where can find one online??

Any help or advice you could give me would be fantastic and I will greatly appreciate any and all help.

Thanks, and go easy on a newbie!!! :icon_thumby:

Also, while replacing the clutch, I lost the u-joint caps for the rear driveline. I believe thats what their called. The caps that bolt to the yoke.

Take what's left of the spring to your local hardware store and try to match it up. Ace Hardware seems to have the best selection of springs. Otherwise maybe at the junkyard or the Ford dealer.

U-joint cups should be replaced as a set....new u-joint time and have it done at a good driveshaft shop and rebalanced while you're at it.

Hey Nate,

It's cool to get the cups of a junk yard rig right?? I can't see why not, but thought I should at least ask/double check. I mean they aren't a high tech part........

id just pull a complete throttle body minus the TPS from your local j/y.

Quick question.

Why minus the TPS?? Maybe it's gone bad and what the point of using another part that I already have in good shape??

It's recommended because some TPS plugs differed, but I am not certain between what years. I also noticed that some TPS sensors have different letter labeling in the plug itself, if you look down in there where the plug goes, the pins are marked "A B C". I've seen the lettering differ as well, I would guess that the wiring configuration might be a little different, but I didn't have the ambition to check it out.

It's not hard to test a TPS sensor, anyway.

I have a 53mm (88-92) TB just lying around that I would be willing to sell for pretty cheap. There is no TPS on it. I used the TPS from the 53mm, on the 58mm that I am running now. It functioned fine when removed, only swapped to somewhat justify the demand for more air on my 2.9L build.

PM me if you want pictures and/or if you're interested in it.

NAPA sells an assortment of springs. Shouldn't be too hard to find one. For a few bucks.

I'd expect any decent auto parts store would as well.

Thank you so much for the offer, and I might just take you up on. If you read my update below, you'll know why.......Just in case it goes screwy again.

Thanks again,

Scott

Quick update

So, I said screw buying a t-body with out trying to fix this one. I started taking off the outside parts......the two springs and bracket thingy. Well, I was wrong, the spring was fine. ;missingteeth;

The bracket thingy (that is connected on the side of the t-body and gas pedal cable and those springs I was talking about) would not come off with out some serious help with a screwdriver. For whatever reason, it was seized to the post it rides on.

Well, after some emery cloth on the post and the inside of the bracket thingy, it worked like new when all put back together.

So.........What, How, and Why would/could this happen??? I didn't check the straightness or put a mic either part. :dunno:

Now if only I could find those bolts and U-Joint caps/straps that I need?!?!?! (see my parts wanted post).

What do yall think??

Scott

Scott most, if not all parts houses carry the straps and bolts for U-joints.. A LOT of new u-joints come with new straps in the box.

Dumb question, but "part houses" you mean like Napa and Schucks??? Just want to double check. I know, the NEW u-joints kinda give it away.
