Threaded Wheel Studs

So I'm going to redrill my 8.8 axle shafts to match the bolt pattern on the Dana 44 going in the front. I have that because the new pattern is so close to the outer edge of the flange that it is recommended that threaded wheel studs be used. I'm just wondering what company makes them, where I can get them, and a ball park figure on price. Thanks
 
Wheel adapters would be cheaper and safer...
 
When I had the shafts done on my Ranger, it looks like they simply used grade-8 bolts (the black finish ones, not gold-zinc).

And spacers are NOT safer than bolting your wheel right directly to the flange.
 
IF The the lugs are right on the edge after redrilling then I would say the spacers are safer. If installed the right way, spacer has never given me any trouble.
 
Junkie.. When you say it looks like they used grade bolts you mean like hex head grade 8 bolts not a stud? and did you have to get new lugs or did the old ones still thread on?
 
Yes, they have hex heads with the 6 radius lines on them behind the flange. Only thing is they have a black finish vs the more common gold zinc color (not sure if this would matter).
They are the same ½x20 thread as the old studs (same lugs went on fine).

And no, threaded studs will have plenty enough meat around them to be safe. Press-in studs require a larger hole though and would be where a problem might arise.
 
Did you leave the holes for the old bolt pattern there or did you weld them up? just another question... When welding the the axle tubes into the center section (pumpkin) of the 8.8 what rod is the best?
 
The old holes can be left, they don't hurt anything.

As for welding, I used my MIG with standard wire. No problems (I did preheat it a little bit though).

If you got a stick welder, I've heard rods with a slight nickel content work good (I forget what # they were... 70-something I think).
