I doubt it will truly be "killed"

I think like so many other models that have been killed off in the last 15 years it will be more of a major re-design and a re-badging.

The Focus is really little more than an updated escort with radically redesigned body lines.

The Fusion is a Contour, the Colorado is an S-10, etc.

The vehicles are radically redesigned and offer new engine/trans combos, but at their core they are just the next generation of an old model with a new name.
 
IE: Cobalt < Cavalier

I'll tell you why...Because they can't get a 4 door Ranger over here!!! That it why!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I hate the people at Ford who said...'No!! America would not like a compact 4 door Ranger...I am so sure'.
Darn morons!!!!! But they can sell that stupid Sport Trac here and abroad!!! Ahhhh, go figure!!!!

They are a new vehicle.

They are in the same class, but if you change everything they are not the same vehicle anymore...

There are fewer fundamental differences between an 04 caviler and an 06 cobalt than there are between an 83 and 2010 ranger.

Are you going to try to tell me that the two years of the ranger are different models?

My first g/f had an 04 caviler with a 2.2L, my one buddy has an 06 cobalt with the 2.2L.

The biggest difference in the two cars, aside from a few new features is the body lines.
 
I saw this yesterday, you beat me posting it!

Its a shame they'll killing it off...I mean, look at the F150 and Mustang. They've got how many generations? I guess the Ranger isnt such a flag ship vehicle???:dunno:

Its a shame I may never be able to drive a brand new Ranger off the lot one day....
 
EVERY SINGLE OTHER CAR/TRUCK has moved upmarket slightly. Every car can now be had with navigation and leather seats. My father in-law (to be) bought a 2010 Ranger and it STILL had windup windows!

The beauty of the Ranger is its honesty. It's a pickup truck. It has opening doors and windows. It tows things and can haul crap in the bed.

Except the Ranger, like others, is just available stripped down. Mine is not even close to simple.

Agreed. I love my '94 XL because it doesn't try to be a Caddilac. It's a effin' TRUCK!!!! A no-bull 4-banger truck! Only toy it has is the CD player (gotta have tunes!), but besides that, there's no power ANYTHING (aside from the T-case & steering), and no AC.

I can live with that. I can hose out the interior when it gets dirty and don't have to worry about musty carpeting.

An 83 vs 10 Ranger is quite a bit different, I don't know if anything would directly interchange. Scratch the badges and #'s off and have someone that isn't familiar with them compare them and I doubt they would know they are the same model.

My Ranger has the same engine as a 1970's Ford Pinto, so what good is that for a referance? The A4LD also evolved from the Pinto's C-3. Sharing major drivetrain parts is pretty common across models.

I don't know anything about GM cars, but a Fusion and Contour are quite a bit different. There were 6 years between the last Contour and the first Fusion... and Escorts and Fous's were made for four years together. The Focus came out in '99 and the Escort died in '03.

What is wrong with the sport trac?

Well I can't really say I like them. I have had several friends who bought them. They never liked them and they got rid of them within two years (traded for an F-150 Crew Cab). I rode in them and I even took a weekend vacation in one. I did not think it was so bad. But it is an Explorer that has been hacked up a bit and it has a composite bed. I think that short bed looks cool. I would like to bob my Ranger's bed to make it a bit shorter!!!!
