THIS is why you should always do a basic tune up on a used vehicle.

Look at the surprise i found in my air box! Scary thing is this truck wasn't sitting. Guy I bought it off was using it as a dd for almost 2 years.

I've never been more disappointed to see my nuts in a box!

I borrowed a friends' Montana last year to try to fix my truck. When I sat in the MT for the first time I could smell something foul right away...not me though...

It got to the point that I could not drive with the windows up on the way home that first journey so I pulled into a gas station to find out what it was. I thought it was coming from the outside but discovered it was something inside the air system in the cabin.

I pulled out about the same amount of gunk from above the cabin air filter...meaning the mice (I know they were mice by the ear prints like Mickey and company) were inside the air ducts...how they got there is beyond me because the cabin air filter did not have any obvious holes for them to get in from below...but, then again, they can slip through weep holes no bigger than a pencil so this was like a train tunnel in comparison...worst part of it was they had pissed on the air filters and that smell just wouldn't come out with any amount of vacuuming...it required replacement.

I found out the cabin filters for a MT are about $50 each and there are two of them...tried a junkyard but someone beat me to it on the only one I found...

That's awful! Reminds me of a time I put buck attractor in a guys cowl vent going for the same effect. Any animal urine is just rancid.

No funky smells but makes me want to check that as well. Obviously it's been a critter haven, and it had to have sat a bit at some point. Most 21yr old trucks have more than 97k.

This just reminded me that this truck has NO nuts now!

So I just grabbed a couple zip ties, the flashlight on my phone, and decided to do the throttle cable mod. Was quite a bit of slack so I wedged a pack of pall malls under the pedal to hold it up......put on 2 medium size zip ties.

BAM! Feels like a whole new truck. Much thanks to destroy for the write up. Between that and it being chin deep in squirrel nuts poor thing couldn't breathe.

Flushed coolant and replaced thermostat last night in a recently purchased 1995 2.3L. This is how the old thermostat was sitting in the engine block....

The bridge was seized in the housing...

Yup, I go through every new/used vehicle I get and do all the basic mtnce tasks, and replace/flush all the fluids.

It's amazing what you find. Hopefully not much, but there's usually something.....

At least you have the peace of mind knowing that you've gone through everything.

A friend of mine and I used to prank eachother back-and-forth, I worked at a gas station and they had those little green pine air fresheners, she absolutely hated the smell, so I stuffed it inside the Cowel, the elastic I stuck around her wiper blade, and put the packaging under the wiper so she could see it, she didn't notice the actual air freshener for about two months, by that point it had soaked up so much water that turned to a pulp but still had the smell really strong, she was pissed but it was so funny!!

Those things are fouler than that plug lariat posted. I live in "the pine tree state" and even I hate them.

The deer urine thing was personal. Guy stiffed me on 47 hours labor installing insulation. He stiffed the rest of his crew that week as well who all owed me gas money for getting them to the site and home. Fitting 5 guys in an 81 mustang notchback is no easy task.

I'd feel bad about it.........but it was a Silverado :thefinger:

I do the the basics when I buy something used. Never know when or even if it was ever done.
