That IS pretty neat. How were they able to get it onto the trailer in the first place? They dug around the base and put the girders in place first? How did they lift it up?
 
Not sure how they did that.. looks like they sawed through the foundation and strategically lifted the house. You can see the arches for the crawl space windows along the bottom. Hopefully they will re brick those back in.

Over the years I've seen a few wood framed houses and buildings moved but I can't understand how they can move a brick house and not have the thing crumble apart.

That's why you pay big money to the folks that know how to do it. If the house is really old, you're gonna get cracks in the plaster, no matter what.
 
Well they didn't have to worry about the plaster. The interior was trashed and gutted. Notice that they put angle iron on the corners and wrapped chains around the entire structure. As for cost it was $115,000 to move it. And it moved a little more than a half mile.

That brick was layed and interlocked to make 13 inch thick walls, so it was definitely stable. 250 tons...

I like watching things like that...seen a few up close and they used cranes on a few of them...but 250 tons would take more than one crane to lift.
