My doors lock automatically when I start the engine, and I hate it.
Then... Today, I shut the hood and it caused all the doors to lock?!
What the hell?
I can see this having a very bad outcome when I'm at the gas station and decide to fill up the windshield washer fluid with the keys in the car.

Should be able to cut that option off just like the seat belt ding thing. Not sure though. I would think there is a way even if it's not meant to be.

I would love to know how... I did a google search but found nothing.

I wonder if it's some kind of short... or if they seriously thought this would be a useful "feature." Having the doors lock when I shut the hood is about as useful as being maced in the face when I have something in my eye.

Yes. And actually the alarm's not even installed. The woman who owned it before me didn't want the alarm so she just had them install the keyless entry portion. The red light still blinks on the dash and the lights all blink if I don't use the keyless entry, but no actual alarm goes off.

The hood thing is a fluke. As the above poster ask, do you have a aftermarket alarm? If you do the fix could be easier

might have an aftermarket alarm. just not enabled a lot of key less entry systems are in fact unenabled alarms.

I bought an aftermarket power lock kit and I had to program it so it doesn't do that. At first it would lock automatically after 30 seconds, if you pressed the unlock button.

I've been looking... Apparently to program the thing I need some programming wire to plug into the box that I don't have.

I'd get an extra key to carry on me all the time....

In fact, for nearly every vehicle I own (and a couple I don't) I have more than one key for. Most I have 4 or more complete sets. I carry two on me for whatever vehicle I'm using that day, one set in each front pocket of my jeans, typically. That way if I screw up and shut the door with it locked an the keys in it, I just shrug an pull out my extra key an get in.

Yeah, normally I keep one in my wallet. I need to get an extra made though for this vehicle, the two I have, have the huge plastic grips on them and won't fit too comfortably in my wallet I imagine.

Heh, yea, that prolly wouldn't be too comfortable.

I try to keep my wallet as thin as possible (well the one that goes in my back pocket at least) cuz I've been told by doctors that having a thick wallet warming your backside can cause back problems. So I keep all of my bank cards, business cards, and the like in a separate wallet that I don't put back there. So putting a key in my wallet doesn't work all that well for me, I just keep separate keychains.

I carry a spare key in my wallet - seems that having the spare means that you may never have to use it!

Or - you could get one of those magnetic "hide-a-key" boxes and attach it up under the rear bumper or some other similar place.
