ok so i decided to calculate the miles per galon my truck is giving.

i did this:

waited until the tank went empty enough to get the "check gauges" light. i filled 4.2 gallons of fuel, (16 USD, im paying 3.73 USD x gallon) and reset the trip odometer.
i drove 3 and a half days as i normally would. so the light came on a while ago this morning, and the odo was reading 90.3 miles
as in 0903

so i assume ill divide the miles between the number of galons i had right?
well that gives 21.5 miles x gallon.

considering the truck is rated at 21 in combined driving and 24 in highway. and i drove 70% in open road and 30% in the city, i think its not that bad.

A better way to do it is fill the tank till the pump clicks off. Wait till you have to get gas again, and again fill until the pump clicks off. See how many gallons it took to fill it back up. Divide miles by gallons. This is the way you're "supposed" to do it and I think this will give you a more accurate result.

x2 you will find this MUCH simpler and more accurate.

Or, you could figure it like the Euro's do - liters/100 kms. +1 on the pump click thing. Usually on mine the fuel comes puking out of the tank and down the side of the truck when the pump goes off though.

or you can do how i do it. fill it up to the top until it clicks, reset the odometer, drive it half way. you need to know how many gallons your tank is. take the miles and divide it by the gallons you have used. for instance i can drive 150 miles on 9 gallons so 150/9 = 17 mpg.

You have a problem with your venting system.......

yeah well filling it until it clicks isnt available here

it hurts my pocket too much lmao

Well, then keep a record of how much gas you put in this time, don't reset the trip odometer until you fill it next time at refill. Should give you a better idea. Or keep a running tally for 1000 miles.

i think your way is plenty close enough really. all your math was correct and this doesn't need to be an exact science kinda thing for some of us. if you're happy with your results, then that's good enough for me, too.

btw, your gas costs are about the same as mine, even a little cheaper. mine is $2.78.
