My '98 Ranger has a strange issue with the turn signals. They work fine when the wheel is at its 2 highest positions of tilt, but when I drop it below that level they do not work, and neither does the 4-way flashers. I assume its either a loose connection in the column, or a fraying wire in the same area. Has anyone ever had this issue? And how do I pull off the steering column cover so I can look around in there?

Any help would be appreciated.

John

Thanks, Earl, thats just what I need. And thanks for the welcome, this is a great site.

Update on the turn signal problem. I pulled apart the column, as shown in the link in the above post, so I could take out the switch and bring it with me to the Ford dealer. I find it easier to have the part I need replaced with me so there are no mistakes. (Like that ever happens). When I pulled off the cover, it turned out the switch has already been replaced, but whoever did it broke off the connectors on the top plug, and the plug is sliding out of the socket when the steering wheel is tilted down. All I had to do is push in the plug and secure it with a couple of zip-ties. Everything works great now, thanks for the help.

Zip-ties: the bailing wire of the space-age. Gotta love those simple fixes!
