I've got a very nice 1988, ext cab, 2wd Ranger sitting in the yard. The interior is excellent, cab is excellent and bed is very good. It's packin' a 2.3L, five speed.:icon_rofl:

I'm thinking this would be an excellent EFI V8 candidate. My other two Rangers are V8 powered but both are carb'd and three speed autos. This project would be a little more refined...AOD or five speed, air, etc. Something that the wife would feel more comfortable jumping in for a grocery run...and would keep her from my F-150 Super Crew!! I'm just not looking forward to the electrical part of this potential swap. :icon_confused:

So...those of you who have done a Gen 1 Ranger EFI swap...can you calm my electrical anxiety at all? If it matters...I'm a big fan of the donor car swap method rather than piecing together parts.

FWIW... I did an '88 4WD Ranger/5.0L swap.
I wished it ended up a 5-sp but I used a C4 Auto.
The donor vehicle was a damaged '93 Stang, 5-sp.

The engine harness came from the vehicle but there are replacement harnesses from FORD for this now.
The engine harness in the '88 was an easy remove, since it too is a separate harness it came out slick. (No extra fuse boxes to content with)
The '93 donor harness slipped in, a few wire needed to be shortened but no biggy; the only thing was locating the correct wire for the fuel pump (can't remember what wire was what now).
The harness laid in as it came out of the Stang.

Luck on the swap, it is an easy one.
