thinkin about fabbing up some extended rad arms. just a few questions from you guys who have done this!

i have a 4 inch lift and f150 spacers so about 6 inches overall.. what would be a good length to extend my arms. im thinking about going to pull a part this monday and getting a set of rad arms to get this project started! :icon_bounceblue:

also, ill probably go with the f150 brackets. i hate those pos rad drop brackets. is there a certain year to look for?

I don't know what the length would be but you should extend them back to the transmission cross member.

ok. but then i would have to replace my transmission cross member right?

yeah, if ya go 15" over stock you will need to fab a new tranny crossmember that incorporates the Rad. Arm brackets as well....

if ya go 12" over stock then you can mount the F150 mounts just in front of the tranny crossmember

remember you will need to "tilt" the new arm a little to correct the caster ( not straight out like the factory arms )

any more questions let me know.....

l8r, John

yea, i have read threw a few threads here my next thing was how to build caster into them. I think i got it though. ill read the link you gave me and see if it helps! thanks for the info!

I'd go with the 15" and new x-member. If you need some stock rad. arms, I will have mine from my Ex soon. Heck you can even have all the brackets and crap once we air chisel them all off.

what other brackets are you talking about? and if youll have them off by this monday then its a deal!

so how long would they have to be for 8" of lift and bringing the arms up to the frame rail (so no drop bracket)

I just meant the rad. arm brakets and crap. Sorry but won't be done by Monday, powdercoating doesn't get back until Tues. or Wed. I think. I also posted about the coils you were wanting.

thatguy - no worries man. ill just hit up pull a part and get them for cheap anyways, probably wont spend over 25 bucks for everything anyways. and are you talkin about the post started by liftedredranger 4" rbv lift coils?

yeah ....... I was thinking about something where I kept everything as close to the frame as I can but the point is moot ..... I can't afford it anyways.

if you are building your new arms then a new x member would be no problem...... ifin i was you I would go that route.

It's just easier that way. Get rid of the low hanging x-member and new, longer arms all in one. Not hard to fab a piece of square tube with a tranny mount on it.

yeah, ill go with the 15" extended arms and new x member.
thatguy - knowof any good steel prices around here?
