Thinking about a Jeep

Round, square, 4-doors, no doors; they all fit in here just the same...

where i come from, no one used a jeep to get around in. they cant tow a damn thing and no room for t-post.

I think they were more or less replaced by these side by side ATV's (Ranger, Mule...) that are intended for light duty jobs. While not on "ranches" I see these things popping up all over on farms, hunters love them too. You don't need an F-350 for every task.

I know one guy that used to have an old CJ-5 farm jeep for checking fences and counting cattle rain or shine. It had a PTO on it for running a shredder or grinder too, he used his tractor with an air conditioned cab up until he retired for that though, he is in his 90's now.

My grandfather had an old S-10 and did pretty much the same thing with it, but he got his 30 years after the other guy got the CJ-5.

pretty much what i was going to say.

there isen't a lot of flat free space around here for cattle or sheep,a jeep gets around the redwood trees easy, and a stocker on 31's is a formidable 4x4 thats not as prone to rolling as my truck.

Jeep?

Well.... there sure is allot of stuff in the after market for Jeeps and they sure build some neat Jeeps on Extreme 4X4 but like the bumper sticker on my Ranger says...

"SILLY BOYS, JEEPS ARE FOR GIRLS" :haha::icon_cheers:

I like the Jeeps for off-roaders. Dollar for dollar that Jeep will be a much better trail rig. Especially when you consider how cheap it is to mod a Wrangler/Cj.

That is the kicker though, you can pay many times more money for a Jeep than a BII to start with, even a rusty crusty YJ is still $3-4k around here.

Really when it comes to mods, if you can do it to a Jeep, you can do it to a BII as well.

I wouldn't mind a Jeep. It wouldn't be all fagged out though. It would have homemade, welded on simple stuff just like my B2 does.

But a Jeep isn't a pickup. I started with a pickup. I went to a B2 because I could use all of my Ranger parts on it. I want to go back to a pickup, and have a pickup body in storage to use, but am up to my bacon bits in things to do for at least another year.

You want to help brush paint a schoolbus?

Oh, you wanted to do something cool. First I have to finish the bus. Somewhere down the line I will be tearing the body off my B2 and putting an '83 Ranger cab with a fabricated dump bed on it. I also have a D60 and NP205 that needs to go in my Chevy pickup. And I am building a 26' boat. And my dozer needs a track pulled.

After that, maybe I'll paint the house so my wife will stop beating me.
