I've been lookin for a good used ranger for off roading instead of using my 05, so i found a 94 4x4 4.0 5spd with 130k and hes asking 1,800 i offered 1300 and he said he wouldn't go lower than 1,600. I think i should jump in it, what do you guys think? good deal or what? http://burlington.craigslist.org/cto/1336876522.html

That is a good price on that. I would buy it if it wasn't over 10 hours away.

Take him 1500 in cash, once he see's the green all bets are off. I would check the clutch, its at the mileage where the slave cylinders like to crap out, but if its pretty solid all the way around aside from the lil bit he describes I'd say go for it. He says 130k in the ad and you put 230k, If its 130k then thats not really bad mileage for the year. Good Luck :icon_thumby:

Well again, I would check the clutch on, the 4.0 clutches are a bit stiff in the first place but if it seems extremely tough get ready for the slave cyl to pop. Unfortunately the trans has to be dropped out to change them and the are a pia to bleed but $1500 doesn't seem too bad for a decent-nice 4x4 with the 4.0 and 5 spd. He said he'd take 1600 so put 1400 in cash in one pocket. then put the other 200 in other pockets. I bet if you show him 1400 in green he'll forget about the other 200 but if not you'll still have it. Good luck, oh and if you get, don't forget to post up some pics... :D

Totally agree, 1400 is allot and hard not to accept. How much does a slave cyl cost to replace? I think that would be a much better wheelin rig then my 05 rangr wouldn't you say:icon_cheers:

I haven't done a slave cyl. in a few years and it was on my 2wd but at that time the slave cyl itself was 70 bucks and the clutch was still in great shape at 140,000 miles but I replaced it and upgraded it anyways. The worst part like I said was bleeding the clutch. As far as paying someone to do it, I couldn't tell ya because I have everything to run a full service shop at home so I do it myself lol. And yeah, beating on a 1400 or 1500 dollar rig is much better then the more pricey 05 ha.

His Craig's List ad says new clutch 6 months ago, so he probably replaced the slave at that time. Ask him to be sure. Even if you do need to replace the slave later, you can detach the clutch line at the slave, replace the slave, then only have to bleed out air from the slave which is easy.
