when i did my swap i also swaped in the explorer dash and the fuel & the temp gauge does not work so i went to a salvage and got two different guage clusters and not a one of them worked in fact they were worse than the origional one so i was going to get after market gauges but then i was told that using after market gauges would throw off and send negative signals to the computer and it would not run right because you need to switch out the stock sencers with whatever comes in the guage kit does anyone have any experience with similar problem any advice helpful

we need a bit more info from you... what year make and model vehicle?

i know on the older model RBV's the speedometer's are mechanical, so there isn't any sendors or anything. but the newers model's the speedo's are electrical. thats where it gets complicated...

86 bronco with 91 explorer everything

i do believe that is a mechanical speedo. therefore an aftermarket one won't be an issue. mounting and some simple wiring for lights to it and your set.

autometer makes a few, 85 is about the cheapest i have found so far. i have an open thread on the subject now. looking for one that is has a wider sweep for the lower speeds. i don't find the need for a 120 mph speedo on my lifted b2.

HOW do you know the problem is the guages?

I saw the word "Swap" in there and generally when someone has
swapped something I think "wiring error"....

Or misunderstanding things like the fact that the oil pressure guage in a 4.0 dash is completely functional... but the sender is really a switch with a built in resistor... so it LOOKS like the guage is working....

Did you swap the entire wiring harness when you did the dash?

I know this post is a little old but in case you are still having problems...
Temp gauge I replaced the the sending unit.
As for your fuel gauge issue, the bronco sending unit works at a different ohm range than the explorer, I am in the process of putting the explorer pump and sending unit in my 88 tank (fits great). I just need to go back to the junkyard and get all the fuel lines to finish the hook up.
