I find it funny how people stand up and blame the owners for Pit bull attacks, but quite common is stories like THIS! A "family pet" INDEED! Pit Bulls need banned, period. It is stupid that we allow people to get killed needlessly, the Pit Bull needs to stay where it belongs, in the dog fighting trade.:icon_thumby:

:bsflag: i raise the bullshit flag! :bsflag:

theres no reason a breed should be banned. ive seen several pits that are great dogs and wouldnt hurt a fly. its the idiots that raise them that should be banned. besides, oilpatch, this is a topic thats already been covered on TRS and you know full well youre just stirring the pot :stirthepot:

then again, who would expect anything else from oilpatch?

no retarded people that breed for fighting need banned .. ive owned 10+ NEVER had even one growl at me. my friends have pits to and never had any problem out of them. i watched the video and seemed sketchy to me dogs just dont attack unprovoked ... ive had to get 30 stitches when i was younger from a dog bite but not a pitbull a Alaskan malamute.. people are just afraid of pitbulls because the size and build of them if they where big fluffy dogs no one would have a problem with them

Well, poodles are more likely to bite than a Pit Bull but I am sure you knew that.

I'm not a dog person but, I have been around dogs all my life. I have seen pits that are as gentle as any dog out there.
The problem is that pits are unbeatable as fighting dogs. If you raise them in an agressive manner, they will be agressive. That is why it IS the owners fault.
When I was a kid it was Doberman pincers. Since then I knew a Doby that was just the coolest dog I ever met. He just recently died from old age. He never hurt anyone.
I have had friends that have had pits. They CAN be very nice dogs. We have two next door right now and I'm not afraid of my kids playing outside.
The mother dog had a stray cat pinned under my pop up last year and there was nothing I could do to change her mind, she was out to kill it! I grabbed her by the back of the neck and gave her a good toss, she was back under the pop up before I could turn around. I tried to grab her again and she nipped at me. I had thoughts go through my head of snapping her neck but, The cat zipped out the other end and dissappeared. I just walked away.

yeah... I've met a pit bull, albeit only once, and it was a very friendly dog. The difference being it was a family pet that was treated well. Any dog is capable of that if that is how it's raised.

Even cats, there's a certain point where they HAVE to have human contact, otherwise they'll never be friendly or come around, ever.

The designation "family pet" doesn't imply that it was treated nicely, trained, or even fed regularly. From the story it appears he was the owner, and there was no witnesses. There's no telling what he could have done to provoke them.

I've usually just ignored most of his threads, but I'll "bite" on this one. :thefinger:

* Any dog, treated harshly or trained to attack, may bite a person. Any dog can be turned into a dangerous dog. The owner or handler most often is responsible for making a dog into something dangerous.

* An irresponsible owner or dog handler might create a situation that places another person in danger by a dog, without the dog itself being dangerous, as in the case of the Pomeranian that killed the infant (see above).

* Any individual dog may be a good, loving pet, even though its breed is considered to be potentially dangerous. A responsible owner can win the love and respect of a dog, no matter its breed. One cannot look at an individual dog, recognize its breed, and then state whether or not it is going to attack.

+1 I've known many pits and they can be great dogs. It''s the morons and/or tweakers that train them wrong or not at all that should be kicked in the head.

ive seen more good pitbulls than mean pitbulls.

my brother has one and when we were camping she ran over to a guy walking by and the guy started yelling "CRAZY PIT!!! CRAZY PIT!!!". once she got to him she started licking his side and sat down. it was pretty funny. of course the dog dot disciplined as she should.

That there is Funny!!!! If you could have caught that on camera it would have been worth money!!

i go to the humane society atleast once a week to see what they got and im not a bit afraid to walk up to the pitts i dont even know .. now chows a diff story i dont trust them

As a pit owner, I find your post retarded.

My dog chases flies. That's about all he'll attack.

He used to be a fighter, but TRAINING got him out of that. I have no fear of taking him anywhere around other dogs. In fact, I would freely allow him to play with other dogs, if the other owner was up for it. He loves to play with other dogs.

Of course, he's 12 years old now. Been my little bro for a long time.

I think the dog I'm most leary of is a Dalmation, Very over protective.

not really that they are over protective but they have eyesight and hearing problems so alot of their bites are from fear ..

Go work with dogs and then form an opinion, until then STFU. I worked in a kennel for a year with every dog you can think of, the VAST majority of pitbulls (we had a LOT come in all the time) were very nice and well behaved, more so than german shepherds, dobermans, dalmatians, ect. Don't get me wrong, a pitbull is not my first choice for a dog but they aren't evil creatures. I was totally comfortable lifting a 100LB pit (massive pit, never seen one so big) into the back of my bosses truck, don't get me wrong, that dog could tear me apart if it wanted to, but it wasn't owned or raised by a moron.
