thermostat problem

Haha its cool I've been working on fords for sometime now but mostly small blocks, but yeah everything is installed correctly, I just need to know some ways of getting air out of the system, I think I'm going to drill a small hole in the thermostat like mutant pony suggested

The thermostat I purchased had a hole in it... If memory serves correctly it was roughly 1/16 inch. If the thermostat you have does not have a small relief hole, I suggest trying that.

wow, I'm having a hell of a problem uploading a picture... let me try some more. Any moderators feel free to delete the two previous posts of mine as they are useless.

I clicked the link and it does not come up. But if I manually copy the link and paste it into the bar up top, it comes up... I don't know. lol.

that page still doesnt work for me.

i usually drill a hole too if the t-stat doesnt come with one. but thinking back, i didnt drill a hole in mine, which is probably why i had to much trouble.

heres a hand-drilled bleed hole:

that hole is probably a little overkill.

heres a t-stat with a bleed hole from the factory:

Like I said air trappage in the cooling system of the 3.0 engine is not a problem... if it were then Ford would have put a bleeder on the engine.

Trust me on this one - instead of wasting your time drilling holes and what-not, give your new 'stat a couple of weeks to run in, and I think you'll find that it will settle in nicely and will quit causing your temp gauge to fluctuate.

small v-6's are usually kind of a bear to bleed. IIRC, there actually is a bleeder located higher up on the newer engines because ford realized it would help.

t-stats are cheap...its not worth risking a motor on one that could be damaged. id throw a new one in there with a bleed holes and make sure the system burps before you take it for a spin.
